HOLOCAUST EDUCATION TEACHER SUMMER
Journey to Poland
March of The Living

In cooperation with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools
and the Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education / March of the Living

The Division of Social Sciences and Life Skills is offering Miami-Dade County Public School educators and administrators the opportunity to experience first hand the sites and sounds of the Holocaust as it unfolded in Poland and Israel.

  • Participate in an unequalled experience visiting the historical sites of the 800 years of the Jewish history of Poland terminating at the death camps of Auschwitz/Birkenau.
  • Engage in discussions with Poles about their perception of the Holocaust and the Jewish community that thrived in Poland prior to 1939.
  • Meet individuals who made a choice and have been recognized as the Righteous Among the Nations having saved Jewish lives at the risk of theirs and their families.
  • Walk the path of the Jews, Gypsies, Catholics, Russians, and the vast array of victims of the most catastrophic human event of the 20th century – The Holocaust.
  • Begin to develop an understanding of the Holocaust and its implications for today.

Tentative Itinerary
Thursday June 30, 2011- depart for Poland
Friday Jul 1, 2011 - Warsaw ghetto & cemetery – Kabbalat Shabbat at Nordzyk Synagogue
Saturday July 2, 2011 - Lodz & Krakow, Galicia Museum
Sunday July 3, 2011  - Walvel Castle in Krakow- Mass for those who choose- Jewish quarter of Krakow
Monday July 4, 2011  - Auschwitz / Birkenau
Tuesday July 5, 2011  - Majdanek
Wednesday July 6, 2011  - Depart for Israel or USA

As an additional option – continue on to Israel …

  • Participate in delving into the 3000 year history of the Jews of Israel.
  • Explore the vast Biblical sites that Israel offers
  • Discover how the survivors of the Holocaust came to Palestine to create a new life.
  • Engage with Israelis and Arabs in a discussion about the issues that confront the Middle East today.

Friday July 8, 2011  - Jerusalem – Kotel (Western Wall)
Saturday July 9, 2011  - Jerusalem (Israel Museum) / or Masada
Sunday July 10, 2011  - Yad Vashem & Atlit -
Monday July 11, 2011  - Tiberias, Golan Heights & Gallilee (meet with Israeli Arabs)
Tuesday July 12, 2011  - Safed
Wednesday July 13, 2011  - Tel Aviv
